How many rounds in a UFC fight?

The rule. Under the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts a UFC bout is scheduled for three rounds of five minutes. Two kinds of bout get five: a fight for a title, and — since 2011 — the main event of a card, whether or not a belt is on the line. What this table counts. The scheduled format on the official record, not the number of rounds the fight actually lasted. A first-round knockout in a five-round main event is a five-round bout here, because that is what it was booked as. 144 bouts on the record were booked in one of the 1990s open formats — a single long round, sometimes with an overtime — and are in the year totals but in neither of the two columns beside them, which is why those two need not add up to the third. 1 year with no share printed. 1998 rests on fewer than 30 bouts, so no percentage is shown — a share off a handful of fights is arithmetic, not a statistic.
