How long is a UFC round?

The rule. Every round of a UFC fight is five minutes, and the break between rounds is one minute. That is the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts and it has not changed in the modern era — what changes is how many rounds a fight gets, not how long one is. It was not always five. 8,683 of the 8,878 bouts on the record were fought over five-minute rounds. The rest are the 1990s, when a UFC bout could be a single round of fifteen, twenty or thirty minutes with an overtime bolted on, or run with no time limit at all. Every one of those formats is in the table above with the years it was used. Median, not average, in the sentence above. A handful of very long fights drag an average upward and tell you nothing about a typical night; the median is the middle finish, which is the number the question is asking for.
