Court McGee to retire after his UFC 332 fight in October

The Ultimate Fighter season 11 winner is closing a 16-year, 24-fight run on the UFC roster.

Court McGee will retire after his fight at UFC 332 in October, he said in an announcement reported this week.

McGee has been on the UFC roster for 16 years and has 24 fights in the promotion. He arrived by winning season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter in 2010.

He fights as The Crusher.

McGee is the second veteran to announce a retirement in a matter of days. Darren Elkins retired at UFC Vegas 120 on Aug. 8.

Elkins was stopped 35 seconds into that fight, which was not the send-off he was looking for.

McGee's timing gives him something Elkins did not get. The announcement comes months ahead of the card, so the last walk is scheduled rather than decided on the night.

Sixteen years is a long time to hold a roster spot. Twenty-four fights inside the promotion is a large body of work, and all of it sits between the 2010 season finale and this October.

We are not naming an opponent or a venue for UFC 332. Neither has been confirmed to us, so both stay out of this story.

The card is scheduled for October.
